My love affair with children’s picture books began over fifty years ago when I was given THE LITTLE HOUSE by Virginia Lee Burton. Helping my mother turn the pages, a new and exciting world was revealed to me.
Even when I was a child myself, I knew that my life would be devoted to the care, education and uplifting of young children. I understand that life is not perfect, and many people deal with extremely difficult situations on a daily basis. I believe, however, that developing a positive self-image in children is of the utmost importance…and positive parenting is a key ingredient in that process. I hope that my blog provides a forum where parents and other caregivers of young children can share ideas…raising children is such an important job…but often difficult and frustrating…we all need to help each other!
During my many years as a teacher, daycare provider and mother of three, I formulated a unique program that utilized children’s picture books as a valuable tool, not only for entertainment and enjoyment, but also for helping children deal with the many issues they encounter in their early years.
SHOW ME HOW! BUILD YOUR CHILD’S SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH READING, CRAFTING AND COOKING is the first book in my new ‘positive parental participation’ series and it is my hope that it will be an important resource for first-time parents as well as those with lots of experience. It is the ultimate shortcut for today’s busy parents and teachers who want to provide educational, fun-filled, self-esteem building activities for young children ages two through five because it:
- Outlines a simple schedule for a balanced and harmonious day.
- Pinpoints 100 picture books every young child should hear and develops pre-literacy skills.
- Provides a child-friendly, healthful recipe AND an eco-friendly craft project for each story suggestion and summary.
- Offers true-life scenarios and crucial tips to help every parent identify and deal with six components of child development that contribute to building self-esteem.
- Shows how to apply positive parental participation on a daily basis whether you are reading, crafting, cooking or doing ANYTHING with your child.

Hi, nice to meet you !
Sorry I never replied
Just realized there was a comment on this page. Thanks for the greeting…hello to you, as well.
You entered a giveaway on my blog and di not leave e-mail. Can you come back and post it? http://tawnasplan.blogspot.com
Hi Tawna,
So sorry..I will do that right now.
Thanks for coming by to give me a heads-up!
Hiya,
I noticed you had entered Tawna’s give-away of my book and you said you left a comment on my website. The reason I ask is I did not get a notification. In fact, I haven’t been getting them so I’m a bit concerned. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know I wasn’t ignoring your or anything. I appreciate your interest in my children’s book.

Hi Cathy,
I did go back and was unable to post a comment in the guestbook…but I sent you an email instead.
Children’s books are my passion…second only to uplifting young children!
Hi VIvian –
You visited my blog and now I’m visiting yours – and I’m so glad I did! I love it – so much good information on one spot.
Thanks very much for introducing yourself. I have subscribed to your blog and look forward to following you on Twitter. All the best!!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll be in Evanston, IL at Lollie’s for a Show-Me-How Story-time with Miss Vivian program…Starting School Jitters Be Gone! I’ll be doing two presentations…one at 11am and one at 12…we’ll be reading “The Kissing Hand” and then doing a fun craft activity from my book with the children. I’ll have a free hand-out for parents on Five Simple Steps to a Smoother School Year. I hope there will be a good turnout.
It’s a long way to go (from Colorado Springs) to read a story…although of course, I am there also to visit my son and daughter-in-law (who is the artist who designed the cover and inside graphics of my book). I’d really appreciate it if you could spread the word to anyone with young children who might benefit from such a program…entering preschool, kindergarten or first grade or someone who will be going to a new daycare or nursery school. The story and craft are appropriate for ages 2-7. Don’t know if you are doing anything that morning, but it would be lovely to meet you.
I have an ebook I would like you to review.
Hi Patricia,
Thanks for stopping by. I wish I could review your ebook…but don’t I need a Kindle or some other ebook reader? Or is it something you can send me a file of that I can download on my computer? Nice to connect with you.
Hi, Vivian,
I came by to check out your site. I love it! I think we must have a lot in common. I have always loved to read and write. I haven’t had my blog long, but it has been so much fun. I have always wanted to write a book. Due to my blog, I feel like I am already living the dream. I actually wrote a children’s book a couple years ago. It has been sitting in my closet. I have dusted it off and I am in the process of tweaking it now. I hope to get it on Kindle soon.
Good luck on Project 365! It sounds like fun, but I don’t think I could keep up with ya’ll this year. I’ll be rooting for you!
Hi Tiffany,
And I hope it will encourage parents to join the 2012 Positive Parental Participation Challenge to read to their children every day. Hope you come back again! Any camping or fishing plans in the near future?
Tnanks for visiting! Yup, I agree…it amazes me how many people I meet through blogging and would love to live next door to them.
I’m not sure how successful I will be with Project 365…but even if I post a quote of value, perhaps that will count.
I just got online and your page was still open from last night… Read about your book program and am interested to keep up with you on this…! I have ALWAYS felt that reading is the most important thing we can teach children – from that comes SOOOO much good in life! I have read to children all of my life. When my son read his first book aloud in Kindergarten, his teacher asked how it was that he gave all of the characters different ‘voices/dialects’ – He answered, ‘Mama always does!’ I have made CDs of me reading our favorite books as gifts to my Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and others. I’d love to be an Audiobook reader of children’s books – Looking forward to keeping in touch with you -

Hi Lyndon,
The impact we have on our children when they are very young is HUGE! It sounds like you are an awesome story reader.
Thank you for stopping by and for the wonderful comment! I would love to keep in touch…I’ll head over to your blog to make sure I’ve been there…and I can follow your blog so I don’t miss out on your posts.
That is so great about your son when he went to kindergarten…I’ll bet he had a wonderful kindergarten year.
